Beginner - Advanced

Whether you are are complete beginner and have never picked up a pair of sticks in your life or you're a old pro and just need a few refreshers, you're very welcome at my Stowmarket teaching studio.

I have been playing drums for over 25 years and have been teaching since 2004. I have taught hundreds of students both privately and in local schools. Many of my students have gone on to join giggng bands and some have even become drum teachers themselves!

Interested in Grades?

No Problem! I have been teaching the Rockschool syllabus for many years and have a 100% Pass rate with no student achieving less than a Merit in any exam (at the time of writing of course!). Some students have gone from beginner to Grade 8 Distinction which is as high as you can get in the Graded exams.

I do not recommend that my students start the Rockschool Grade programme straight away as I believe that getting a feel for the instrument and developing a 'good ear' for music and rhythm are essential for any budding drummer, therfore I highly recommend spending a bit of time learning by listening and watching in your drum lessons. I will let you know when you or your child are ready to get stuck into Grades and explain what to do.

1 HOUR - £25

45 MINS - £20

30 MIN - £15

I highly recommend weekly lessons for best results. Fortnightly or monthly spaces are available but you are more likely to get your preferred day and time if you book a weekly slot.

Lessons can be paid for by BACS or in cash in advance in 6 week blocks (or by school half terms) ensuring you get your preferred time. You can also lesson by the lesson but I cannot guarantee that your preferred slot will be available every week.

Cancellation Policy

This is a large part of my job, I have bills to pay and a family to feed. Please try to give at least 48 hours notice of any cancellation to avoid beong charged.

Any lessons cancelled on the day will be charged at full rate. Lessons cancelled the day before will be charged at 1/2 rate.

In the event of extreme weather conditions such as heavy snow, no cancellation charges will apply.

If I have to cancel for any reason I will do my best to rearrange the lesson, if this is not possible I will give a full refund where applicable.

THE TEACHING STUDIO + PARENT INFO

The spacious drum room has 2 x top quality full sized acoustic drum kits. A Mapex M series and a Tama Rockstar, both have pro quality cymbal sets. Between the two kits we have a large amplifier to play music through so you can play along to your favourite songs or those Rockschool backing tracks.

I HIGHLY RECOMMEND WEARING HEARING PROTECTION WHILE PLAYING DRUMS. YOUR EARS ARE DELICATE AND MUSIC IS NO FUN WITH HEARING LOSS! Foam earplugs from a supermarket or chemist will be fine.

Parking is available right outside the building.

For the parents - There is a waiting area with a view into the drum room. Tea and coffee making facilities are available.

I prefer parents not to be in the room during the lesson. Experience has taught me that young students will open up more, ask more questions and feel more comfortable with the teacher (all essential for learning) if parents are not in the room. You can see into the drum room at all times.
